The Story of How I Went On a Cleansing Diet
One weekend, I decided to go on a cleansing diet. Just for the fun of it. I had no clue how to go about it, so I selected a vegetarian one without much thought. Besides, this diet was the easiest to prepare. So off I went to the store to purchase food for this vegetarian cleansing diet.
Noticeable Changes
The first thing I noticed was that I ate more often. I did not know if I ate more or less but I am certain I ate more frequently. I did not bother measuring the calories, mainly because I was more interested in the cleansing part and not the diet part. My weight does not vary much, and besides, all I wanted was to experiment with this cleansing diet.
After two days, things began to feel differently. To tell you the truth, I did not even know that going with a vegetarian diet was cleansing. But somehow, I did feel clean. I was also more energetic. I had some panache left when I should have been dead tired and I had a feeling that my health was improving! It was the same feeling I had when I was about twenty or so years younger.
I was pretty satisfied with the way things turned out. In fact, feeling free of all the real or imagined chemicals or toxins in my body; I stayed on that cleansing diet a couple more days than recommended. And then I went a couple more. Finally, I completely forgot I was even on a diet since I had gotten so use to it.
Gullible Moment
I remembered I was on a vegetarian binge only when a couple or so weeks later, I ate my first gravy-laden chicken leg in weeks. It did not taste different. It did not even taste new. Maybe I remembered because my memory improved while I was on this cleansing diet.
Of course, I told my friend, who was sitting right across the table while I was munching on a chicken leg. I told her how I went on this vegetarian spree and that the chicken leg I was busily chewing was my first taste of meat in weeks.
Then I saw a worried look on her face. Then she asked a lot of questions. She asked how long I went vegetarian, if I included eggs in my diet, if I had any fats in what I ate, and a ton of other questions; which I dutifully and honestly answered. I did not know what the big deal was anyway.
Then she informed me that various religious cults employ the same method, because some alleged studies have shown that lack of meat or protein in one’s diet usually increased a person’s gullibility. Likewise, the acceptance of everything I have heard was true according to my friend!
“I see,” I replied, following my curiosity regarding this subject. I did not know that, I grinned sheepishly. And I have never confirmed it too. Like the good friend that she was, she stuffed me full of protein I did not even know as food. Finally, I stood up to her and declared, in spite of her unwavering convictions, that I was full to the brim.
Finale
Come to think of it, she was probably waiting for me to stand up to her; to prove to herself that I was no longer the submissive gullible individual I had unconsciously become. And so I went back to eating meat and similar things.
But every so often, I still go on that vegetarian cleansing diet for the actual prescribed time. Sometimes it also hurts not to be gullible at all. I just will not tell anyone again when I am on a cleansing diet.
